Featured Article - Set the Night on Fire

The home of Steve and Dana Germer on Barton Creek at Spanish Oaks lent an opulent setting for a unique summer party benefiting Austin Smiles. Lush lawns rolled like bolts of emerald velvet down gentle terraces to meet a waist of water that cinched the green landscape with a brilliant blue sash. Jewel-like clusters of tables and chairs in exotic, dark woods (donated for the occasion by Java) adorned this stunning green dress. The setting was languorous and, except for the absence of hats and parasols, seemed reminiscent of a 19th century English garden party as couples strolled the grounds amidst the summer splendor.

Stunning torches, engineered by Tony Walsh, dotted the lawns, and the passionate sounds of Encendio, an L.A.-based Latin band flown in expressly for the occasion, "set the night on fire" with a torch of it own to help fund the operations provided on a pro bono basis by doctors who perform reconstructive plastic surgery for cleft lip and cleft palate repairs on children in Central Texas and Latin America.

Among the many sponsors of the party was David Young, of David Young Homes, builder of the Germer home. David and Stephen work together, and their homes rank among those at the very top in the high-end custom category. The expansive acreage that enfolds the home with majestic trees, lawns and the waters of Barton Creek provides the perfect stage to show off a custom home of this caliber.
